Been at Google for ~2 yrs. No prior working experience. Found my work sucks. In process of waymo interviews. Wondering what you guys think about transferring to Waymo. Is it a good move? I m excited about self driving, but not quite sure whether/when Waymo will win the game. Any domain insights/comments would be appreciated. Thanks much! L4. Hmm, good to know. Yes can keep existing GSUs. But future refresher are waymo stock, not GSU.
Waymo stock? They’re owned by alphabet so wouldn’t that just be alphabet stock just like google? I mean Waymos loss is included in alphabets stock.
Yes, different stock. See here https://us.teamblind.com/s/zrYPKguc
I’m at Waymo at the moment and so far so good. Was never at Goog so cant do a direct comparison. Although our pace is *slower* than we’d anticipated, we’re a lot more established, ahead, and at a steady pace in comparison to Cruise (who it seems is having major growing pains as of recent a la current Blind posts). Tesla is just pretty much never going to happen in terms of SDC.. hardware and software sucks for now (not trying to argue with anyone on this, anyone in SDC space knows this to be true). Issues my colleagues are having though is with the stock being Waymo stock, however -I believe- there are periods we can have goog buy portions of it back, so there’s that I guess. Other than that we are having our own growing pains as well, however there’s a lot of smart people who realize shit isn’t working properly and are trying to fix it as we go so issues are not being ignored, just the pace is not ‘on demand’. And as a bonus, goog is like our very very rich sugar daddy. 😁
Thanks for the insight, do you mind sharing TC? Have an interview next week but have read on blind about the lower comp (compared to Google) and am hesitant.
150k TC (assuming Waymo stock doesn’t appreciate). I’m L3 in mfg so automatically the TC will not be much as say swe. not the greatest tbh but it’s in line with other FANG (for my role)
Why not do an internal transfer? There are so many interesting teams within and you have so much internal visibility/knowledge, not sure I would take the risk in transferring to Waymo.
What risk do you mean? Mind elaborating? I personally feel risk is little, but I may be biased as I believe in AV future.
Does anyone from Google get notified or contacted if you apply to another Alphabet company?
Don't think so
So if I invest in Alphabet, I don’t get Waymo ownership with that? So if waymo takes off it’ll be great for waymo stock but not Alphabet stock?
Op, what did you decide? I'm deciding between a Google vs Waymo offers right now...

So Waymo doesn’t count as an internal team switch?
No, waymo is a different company under Alphabet
I see. Different companies within amazon are still considered internal transfer so thought it may be the same. For example I could do an internal transfer to Twitch or IMDb even if I work at AWS or Amazon marketplace
