i live in US currently with F1 that expire at this July. Got a google offer at MTV. HR said i can match team outside of US if i didnt get the lottery this year. is possible to work at other country for a year and transfer back to US at google? whats the companys policy and how hard is it? any tips will be appreciated! TC: 250 YOE: 3 SWE
Do you how will the compensation change if you join oversea office first? Will the entire initial RSU be based in oversea? Then even if you come back to US, you will have a huge TC hole.
So, generally for offer is changed to match the pay scale of the site, but GSU kept as is of the original offer. No extra GSU is generally awarded for site change. However, none is deducted either. TC in US is generally higher though.
Yeah, ty! My main question is say I accept an offer in US, but before joining Google, I decide to go to an oversea office (say Waterloo Canada), will the GSU in my offer letter remain? (Since I haven’t started at Google yet) It seems your answer means it will retain the same GSU, thx.
Hello fellow probable shorebird, so here it how it's going for me. I was working at Cisco back then when they decided H1B is a wasted effort and I either should find a team in Canada (which was easily doable as I had sister team who was happy to hire) or go back to sweet home. I chose Google. Upon offer, they offered me the same thing. H1B or Dublin office. H1B wasn't an option, I was in J1 with Cisco, so transfer wasn't looking good. I chose Dub office. Even my to be manager told me that I can go back to US after a year with L1 if I am not very eager to stay at Dublin. Best thing for me was I was joining as SWE SRE. SRE teams, if you are not aware, are 2 sites. In our case, one team is in Dublin and Sunnyvale and transfer among sites in the same team is simply a matter of will. Long story short, fell in love with the team, got promoted in 1y 2 months because of the awesome match and now processing L1.
Cool! Thx for the great answer!
