I am having a lot of trouble deciding between these two. They would both be out of the Bay Area. I care mostly about career growth, promotion cycles, and team culture. I care about total comp too, but more so as it comes with promotions/performance rather than initial compensation. Also, quality of on-campus food doesn't hurt. Definitely willing to sacrifice some work-life balance as long as hard work is properly acknowledged through promotions, bonuses, etc. Worried about somehow ending up working on a product I'm not interested in after the Meta Bootcamp, but I heard that process is pretty good. If anyone has experience at either company, I would love to hear your input. I picked Facebook. As far as brands go on your resume, FB and Google are, broadly speaking, equal in terms of recognition in the industry. FB however is more competitive internally (sometimes cutthroat) and Iāve seen engineers grow more quickly at FB than at Google. Google is more of a rest and vest type environment from what I gather, so if you prefer that, go for it. FB=easier to grow but easier to get fired. Google = harder to grow but hard to get fired. I think food probably has more options at Google but quality wise, again theyāre neck and neck. As far as TC goes: Iāve seen FB engineers make more but they also work more than Google engineers and are typically under more pressure (but that could be team dependent). Mind you all of this is subjective and just my opinion. I didnāt have the smarts to make it into either so from my perspective, you really canāt go wrong and thereās fewer differences (as far as impact) and way more similarities between the two. Good luck and congrats on two amazing offers right outta college!
If you're willing to sacrifice wlb a bit and care about being promoted fast for good work, I'd suggest FB. If you don't like the team or culture, can always hop over to Google.
@š What are the bands like for an incoming NG L3 up to L5? Worried about peanuts increase in TC for how much work has to be put in just to float.
FB campus food is way better than Google(comparing mpk with mtv)
As a recent grad at Google, Iād personally go with Facebook for the fast growth early on in your career along with better refreshers if youāre an above average performer. 1 year to L4 and 3 years total to L5 is pretty much impossible to achieve at Google as a new grad, but isnāt uncommon at Facebook. Once youāre senior at FB, you can go wherever you want laterally as a senior and get that bag.
@L4Uber š, I heard itās somewhat common at GCP and YouTube for 3-4 years as new grad to L5? Am I misguided? And also donāt companies downlevel Facebook engineers(especially google) because they look at total YOE in industry as well
Meta. Career growth is not a comparison between the 2, itās much faster at Facebook (and the reason I chose it over, even though I loved my google internship). FWIW I have 2 close university friends at Facebook and 3 at google. Weāre all of similar skill (similar grades, achievements, etc). Us 3 at Facebook got to E6 when 2 at google were 4 and the other was a 5. Itās really just because of a different growth culture in either company. Facebook will give you hard work, then when you nail it they promote you so your only choice is to keep performing at the next level. Google will promote you when you reach some amount of YOE and are assigned specific projects that your manager thinks you can take. That isnāt to say google is a bad placeāitās wonderful over there. My friends like it (they like their products and WLB). But donāt go there for career growth. The trap with Meta is if you join it for growth and then donāt perform well. Youāll find yourself overworking and growing at the same rate as in google. But then again, the google trap is if you work hard, perform well, then donāt get rewarded because well, they just donāt reward you. Bootcamp works well, donāt worry about it. Feel free to DM me too about teams. Last thing, Iād also consider company culture. Both companies have very specific cultures, and you might be sensitive to one more than the other. But get info about that from insiders, not from the media.
Hey, really appreciate you taking the time to write such an informative comment for those who may be in similar predicament as OP(such as myself)! I have a few additional questions and was wondering if it would be alright to DM you?

Maybe Iām looking through rose tinted glasses, and grass is always greener, but as a current Facebook intern hoping to get a new grad offer, Iād take google. Not because Iām a fanboy, but I REALLY value WLB and Iāve heard thatās really good at google. Take google and refer me pls š
