Google v/s Facebook offer

May 7, 2019 63 Comments

I just had a Facebook on-site and the interview went amazing. I’m expecting a strong offer from Facebook. Facebook said the min time they to make an offer is one week. On the other hand, I’ve a google offer deadline of this Friday. Google Rec isn’t ready to push the deadline.
Google- L3, 191K, 211K first year, Sunnyvale
Facebook- New York
Amazon- 170K, Seattle
Cur TC- 75K
2 YOE

Location is not an issue. I’m looking for a better TC and company good for overall growth in the long run.

Any input would be appreciated.

It’s “Data structures and Algorithms Bootcamp” by. “Jonathan Rasmussen”. It’s a good courses if you already kinda know the concepts and need to revise :)

The Google deadline is bs. Tell them firmly you need more time to evaluate all options. I accepted my Google offer a month after I got it. It's a recruiter tactic to limit your bargaining position.

I was lucky since the recruiter was a mutual friend, so he was extra nice. Also you are a strong candidate with Google and FB offers, so it shouldn't be hard to get other comparable offers if one falls through.

You are debating Sunnyvale vs NYC?!

I'd take Sunnyvale over nyc in a heartbeat. The weather alone seals the deal. Talk to then Google rep - you're only looking for a few days - they should accommodate

Do you know the level you're interviewing for at FB?
You may get E4 offer at FB. If so, it's not the same league.

I was told the exact same thing by recruiter. In my case, I had other phone screens I wanted to take. Because of the specifics of my case (things aren’t going well for me at Amazon, I was only in the phone screen stage at those places, and I got placed in a city I’m excited about), I tossed in the towel and accepted it. It’s a poker game. I’d try to lean on FB hard. This could be the difference of 30-50k a year though

      OP
Yea, it could be easily a difference of 30-50K. That’s the reason I wanna wait for FB and they don’t. Rec said we’d talk later in the week so I will try to push for another couple days.

Why not on Friday tell Google that you have an offer from Amazon/FB ( if you get that verbally) and if they can improve on your current offer.

I'm sure as soon as you add FB to the negotiation table things will change in your favor. Good luck :)

    • Are you trying to sabotage the OP? Obviously don’t accept and then decline or try to negotiate later
