Google vs Grab offer

I have offer from Grab Bellevue and Google Bay Area
Grab TC 260k base 160k annual bonus 24k Rsu 50k units worth 5.87$/unit vesting over 4 years
Haven’t got concrete numbers from google.
Both roles are for SWE ML

3 yoe, both offers are for L4

Comments/advice from people at grab would be really helpful

    Google, no brainer. Seattle team has to follow leaders in Singapore and wlb is very bad in Grab

      It is hit or miss with management. The folks above who had a bad experience and left have a valid perspective but I can only share mine.

      Imo, great wlb and pretty interesting opportunities. Stepping into Indonesia and Vietnam was eye opening for sure.

      Have worked with folks based in Seattle, in return for having to communicate with HQ after dinner some times you get the freedom to wfh. (Matter of preference)

    Congrats! Tough call. Steve Yeggie, who runs the Data team is based in Seattle (Bellevue to be precise).

    If they do IPO, I don't expect them to do better than Uber or Lyft.

    But, I really like the fact that at Grab you can be somebody rather than being a nobody at Google (at L4). Also, personally like Grab's vision and mission better.

    At the end of day, pick the right team. Being on the team which you absolutely love, learn and enjoy your work matters more than TC.

  • Well, such l4 offers make a lot of old timers look like fools to be loyal to the company. Don't get me wrong, congratulations on your great offer but just feel sorry for us old timers.

      Which level? I've seen a bunch of L3 horror stories here on blind about people not being able to find a team after HC approval for weeks/months

      Got it, as I see it, Google experience carries a lot of weight. If TC makes it worth while to move to bay then I'd take it.

    People in Grab are down to earth and happy to share knowledge. There are lot of interesting problems to be solved at Grab. It will definitely teach you alot if you are in for knowledge. However, late night meetings with folks in Singapore, being on-call is an issue for most people. If you are not leading a team you might not face these issues. frequent Internal org. restructuring is very common and it’s a high pace environment, OKR’s changes very oftenly, but if you have a right leader on top, this can be your best gig so far. it’s definitely demanding company which makes it difficult to balance work life.

      Down to earth and helping is true of US teams, but Singapore teams are not as good, and Chinese teams are basically combative.
