The Verge: Google workers announce plans to unionize. https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/4/22212347/google-employees-contractors-announce-union-cwa-alphabet Should other companies follow suit? *** My two cents, Amazon and MSFT need ones too
Check out this post! "Google Workers form Union (Tech Industry)" https://us.teamblind.com/s/2LLd2sbm
Get job at one of world's most recognized and desired companies. Get a ridiculously inflated salary Receive perks unfathomable at any other company Complain about unfairness or some other bullshit. Yeah, that seems right
SJW wet dream
It's diversity hires just securing their position when people get sick of SJWs.
no, f communism
This is not Communism.. I can't believe how much the red scare really f'ed up not only the country but the world. That's why all these Republicans can just say the magic words "Communism" and "Socialism" and have everyone fall in line. It's ridiculous
This ^
Enjoy your salary being siphoned off for dues and having seniority trump competence for anything that matters, idiots.
Seniority already trumps competence. Especially with the excessive downlevelling of industry hires.
That’s contradictory, no? They down level industry hires BECAUSE they care more about competence than seniority. Experience and seniority is basically equivalent when it comes to unions. The longer you’ve been at a place or the more experience you have the more pay and power. Google and other tech companies have leveled the playing field more where someone with 5 yrs of exp can get paid more than someone with 15 yrs because they can outperform them. With unions you’re going to lose all the top talent because the unions will scream that it isn’t fair X person gets paid way more than Y person at the same level.
List of people in the union seems....like following a similar pattern :D
We have our problems with contractors too.
Yeah Microsoft mistreats them badly.
Why not, it worked out great for auto workers? I mean it’s not like these companies could just employ workers outside of the US, right?
I am much more afraid of what the union might do to me than what Google might do to me.
I don’t understand how a union will make retaliation and controversial contracts go away. If the Union doesn’t like something Google decides to do, can’t Google just say well tough shit, let whoever wants to quit from the Union quit and hire new people over time? The only way this would work is if the Union is composed of the majority of employees, where rehiring would be impossible at such scale on short notice but even the article says that only 230 people signed cards in support of that Union.. that’s like 0.25% of all employees, which means nothing
Well there is something called “Employee friendly” that Googlers chest thump about.
230 today. The first few people are the bravest. Eventually if it becomes a sizeable amount, not even majority, then the union has power. This is basic democracy. The fact that so many people are against this is worrying.
