DropboxYes, hello

Googlers who work in Kirkland

I just accepted an offer for a role in the Kirkland office but want to live in the city. Do any of you commute from an area like Queen Anne or CapHill? I’m wondering what the commutes like or if there’s easy public transport to use etc...

A lot of people commute to Fremont and take the Kirkland shuttle from there. If you can work on the shuttle, that's a viable option.

Roughly every hour. Personally, I hate working on the shuttle. I know some people that do this every day and said they really like it. SLU campus construction should end sometime in 2019. I don't know what other info is deemed public so will just leave it at that.

The SLU building is for cloud. May want to verify with orgs made the final cut for the building.

You're really going to be kicking yourself after a few months of 1:30hr+ commutes each day, even on a shuttle.

True this. Eastside is nice. Consider it. You’ll thank yourself later

Are you moving from Cali? Or already in the Seattle area? People in general are very mixed on what's important. Short commute or Seattle city experience. I know a lot of people who try both too...start in Seattle and then decide if the commute is worth it. Trust a Googler on this more than me but there is also a public bus from Seattle to Kirkland too. I know for MSFT depending on where you live / routes / etc public transit can be a better option sometimes.

Also with the light rail from downtown cap Hill is a lot easier than it used to be depending on your location. My recommendation: avoid needing to swap buses but light rail to bus is usually ok. Queen Anne is beautiful but lower QA to SLU is prob the only semi decent option to get to Kirkland. QA to Fremont to Kirkland sounds like it would suck.

Kirkland (98033) is awesome and grows very fast. Get some real estate there until it’s too late.

You have 2 options. 1. The Google shuttle from SEA 2. King County 255. I prefer the 255 because it takes about 25 mins and drops you at the Kirkland office from the Convention Place Stn. Although, note that Capitol Hill is very hilly if you are takimg the 255 option you will have to walk up the hill while coming home. I highly recommend you live near the Fremont office. Its an excellent location, less homeless people, slightly cheaper and newer apartments and Gas Works Park.

Also, although Quuen Anne is beautiful and all, its the worst option for you because Mercer st is always jammed both ways throughout the week. Check out SLU/Westlake/Downtown (near convention pl or westlake stn) as well.
