Is it just me or does Google drag it's feet? Applied back in December, had recruiter phone screen at end of Jan, spoke with hiring manager 3 weeks ago and everything is still TBD. Recruiter says Is this normal Google behavior? This makes it extremely difficult the come up competing offers as well. I'm interviewing other companies as a negotiation chip. What was your recruiting experience with Google like? TC $160K
It's very slow
Yes it’s normal. This is all that they do. They have the worst process in the fucking world because they know you’ll put up with it because they think they’re the shit. It’s quite well known that google does this consistently and has done so for many years. They’re the most arrogant company in that regard. My source is that I’ve interviewed there twice and worked there for 3 years.
How is FB's process? Been to a couple of rounds with them. Seemed like they moved faster.
My FB process was 1.5 months from first contact to offer. That’s with Christmas in the middle.
Onsite to offer to exactly 1 month. Yes it's very slow
Beggars can’t be choosers.
Not really a beggar here
If you’re Expedia you’re a beggar like most of us.
My fault it's slow? Anyhow, the other companies reached out to me in Jan so can't control that and can delay only for so long
No? You sound very unreasonable, I delay other companies for 2 months? That's a red flag for the recruiters at the other companies. Christ.
My experience was totally different. It went pretty fast. Recruiter reached out. Skipped phone screen and went onsite the following week. Got feedback in 2 days and passed HC in the following week. Team match only took 2 days when HC was pending. Then got the initial offer. Provided compete offer and got a huge new package 2 days later. Signed immediately. Total process took roughly 3.5 weeks from initial phone call and I had to push onsite 2 weeks later because I didn't have time. It really depends.
Same boat. I'm going on week 9. On-sites were 2.5 weeks ago. Recruiter has kept me warm keeping me posted every 2-3 days saying that the hiring team is still having discussions and no decision yet. Late in the day Friday (2 days ago), I get a vague email asking my schedule to hop on a call on Monday (tomorrow). I'm trying to be positive...but a whole weekend of thinking what the result may be is exhausting. If it's good news, next step is HC which means I'm in for another 3-4 weeks before an actual offer. I was referred in and my friend warned me that the process can be very slow, especially for a non-tech role. He wasn't lying.
Thanks for sharing and hoping you have good news waiting for you!
Usually that ‘vague email’ is to speak with the recruiter directly with good news. More often than not if they move forward with another candidate that email would say so. Fingers crossed for you.
3 weeks for me from onsite to offer. My recruiter was awesome and I had competing offers and she pushed hard on her end. I previously worked with another recruiter that was slow, even that time I had competing offer. so I would say really depends on your recruiter and the availability of position at the time.
People aren’t stupid. Soon everybody else will realize what some people have already realized, that Google is just another company. They turn away thousands of well qualified candidates every year because of their shitty hiring process. It’s the thing I hate most about the company
Really depends on how strong the interview was or how much the HM wants to push it. They may also have offers sent out they are waiting to hear from
Recruiter says they're deciding the candidates for onsites.
