I just got a job offer in Amazon and they are about to initiate my H1B Transfer process. I have heard H1B Transfer Premium Processing takes up to 2 weeks. But what is the rejection rate? Should I wait to inform my current employer? Also my apartment needs 30 day notice. But I also want to move ASAP. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Had extremely terrible experience recently with the office around a similar reason. If only one thing I have learned so profoundly in my 10 years of experience after this is that your supervisor only cares about his benefit whatever he may say. So, Never take any action on unreliable outcomes. Don't do anything unless you are definite of the outcome. What about rejection or any secret clause ???
Gotcha thank you
I understand that it is a bad idea to make plans before approval. But any one has any idea on rejection rate? Do you know anyone whose visa transfer got rejected?
You can find this info on trackitt
Thanks for the link. That helped a lot on general H1B rejections questions. It talks about initial employment and continued employment, but not about the H1B transfer. So I am not sure if my case would fit in either of the cases!
Continued is transfer
Joining on receipt is pretty safe as a SWE for Facebook Apple Microsoft Google, especially if you have a legit US (or equivalent) CS Masters degree (4% or less denial rate for all transfers, and close to 0% for SWEs). I'd advise against joining on receipt at Amazon (17% rejection rate, unsure which portion is SWE but odds just seem higher).
It could be 0.1% and you would still be risking your life in the US, just to start a few days early. Unless there is a really pressing issue, starting on receipt makes zero sense when you analyze the risk/reward ratio.
Depends on the actual situation though. Also you have a 0.1% risk to get kicked out of the country on a daily basis for many more reasons than that. As long as your transfer is legit, your job actually requires niche skills and your background aligns perfectly, you don't have anything to worry about.
I would break the lease or just pay for the rest of the lease if it is close to end. At the most you would lose 3-4k. But you would get a lot more in relocation or joining bonus. And definitely wait for approval to come before uttering anything to your manager or team members. Don't join on receipt. If you get RFE and/or rejection, it will all be worthless and you would be left with nothing. Just wait for 2 weeks man, what's the rush. Spend time doing things which you couldn't while working at your current company.
Never make any plans until you have the approval notice. Informing your current employer would be a mistake before then.
noted, thank you :)
