Will people start to move to Canada? Will India finally not have such a bad talent drain issue? Wonder how all this will play out. https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2020/05/28/high-skill-immigration-restrictions-expected-soon-from-trump/
Trump better be careful with his decisions, anything even minor changes with H1B and OPT Will have long term consequences and affect future immigration. There has been lot of speculation on this one, everyone is waiting what this is going to be. I am sure NYT or WSJ will have it sooner within next week.
Do u think he cares it? He only cares election in this November.
I truly believe he is perfectly fine with the long term consequences and affects on future immigration.
India is not special. The H1-B rules apply to all countries equally.
Except Australia Canada Mexico
And Singapore, hongkong, Chile
It’s a good thing. It’ll shake people up from whatever comfort zone they are in and have them think about where they want to build their lives. It’s not great for the world that tech is concentrated in a few places. We need to spread the wealth and the skills evenly so more nations and cities can prosper. I’m excited about what this means for Canadian tech.
That's a good perspective
With Facebook for the first part re: building lives outside US. Not too sure about second part. Better job opportunities if a certain industry is concentrated at one city or county. So won’t have to move family around if I change jobs
Please not again!! Done with this H1B posts!!
Isn’t this good? Setting a high minimum wage for h1bs? “$172,640 for a software developer in Silicon Valley”
New grads won’t qualify -> international students from India and China stop coming to the US -> universities suffer -> higher fees for Americans -> more inequality (and possible ripple effects to the university economy, especially university towns)
True but headed towards the right directions to try to get rid of ICC
We need to ban these fake news H1B posts
What is fake?

People need to chill and not get stressed out too soon by these clickbait articles. If you look closely at any of the recent new "restrictions", they don't really mean much or change anything. They are just to appease voters and businesses so they feel "something" was attempted. So it'll go like "ban new OPT work permits unless the person is already in the US or a spouse of someone that is in the country or a brother or sister of someone here" basically you'd need to be the unlucky student that left the country before you submitted your OPT but this never happens because leaving the country before submitting OPT means you forfeited it. Corrected by my international buddy: Previous comment said you forfeit OPT if you leave the country before OPT is approved. That was incorrect, you can leave the country after submitting OPT and before getting it but it is very risky and not advisable. The main point is you must be physically present in the US at the time you submit your OPT application. So one forfeits OPT if they leave before it is submitted.
What about leaving the country for PTO while on OPT? Is that considered leaving?
I don't think so unless the permit will expire and need to be renewed while you are out of the country. As long as you have the required travel documents it is usually fine. I can't say that I've seen many OPT folks choosing to travel at this time. Talk to a lawyer or international student office advisor.
Stuart Anderson reports! Ugh..
You mean he does not know what he is talking about?
Dude -literally 3 posts on this for the past month. First OPT was supposedly gone, then H4 was supposedly gone and then H1 was supposedly gone.Ultimately nothing happened. Wait and watch without speculating
Nothing happened thanks to tech CEOs who were non stop calling Trump and asking him to stop killing opt and h4 EAD and others. (Source: anti immigrant tweets) Don't get too cocky. Most of us have very little knowledge on how close it came to being rescinded. Next week is going to be crazy - unless the businesses are able to do something again. Good luck to everyone
Not being cocky-just saying it’s better to wait and watch without speculating

You will not have Indian colleagues soon
I will always have Indian colleagues so long as I have colleagues. 😂
