I am dating a girl who is a foreign medical graduate (MBBS/MS and MPH from John Hopkins) and has cleared USMLE level 3, currently on J1 and entering year 3 (PGY-3) of her residency (internal medicine) at Michigan. She has a license to practice in Michigan. Is it possible for her to get H1B after finishing her residency and find a job in Seattle. I am Canadian on TN and she is Indian. It seems that in order for her to get H1B waiver, she may have to work in some backward/remote area. I am concerned about this and whether to continue the relationship if we can't live and work in the same city after her residency. Anyone with experience regarding this? #h1b #workvisa #rfe
W2C such gf?
She will need a J-1 waiver before she can transfer to H1B or any other status besides O-1 in the US. She should be able to find a waiver jobs in Washington - Harder to qualify in Seattle (Unless she signs up for a PCP position). But it’s not all that bad. If she’s in her PGY-3, she should have already signed for a waiver job somewhere as spots fill up quick. Look up the Conrad 30 program in Washington and Oregon. 3 years will go by quick. Plus if she works as hospitalist, it’s usually 7 on and 7 off. Might just work.
That was very helpful! Thank you. :)
If you get married, will she get TN?
She could only get permanent residency for Canada after marriage and have to live with me for 3 years to be eligible for Canadian citizenship. So no TN :(
She probably knows herself, have you asked her?
