If you got the status last year - Starting from October '18 till Dec '18 - ~90*(1/3) = ~30 Current year, lets say you file in march end = ~90 90+30 ~120 days < 183 days Hence, you won't clear the substantial presence test. In case you ported in 2017; then you're definitely a resident alien. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you’ve been paying taxes for 5 years you are considered citizen for tax purposes
