Hi, This year (april 2017) is the second time i applied h1b. and i didnt make it in lottery. April 2018 is my final shot. I'm contractor at apple (1.5 yrs), working with a staffing firm which might be unstable situation for me at anytime. Cannot rely completely on it. Hidden risks. As 2018 april is my last shot.. i 'd like to go with a fulltimer job for my h1b visa application. I've been hunting for new job now. My only concern is whether new company will be applying h1b for sure or not. The reason for my skeptical thinking is.. After my Masters degree, my 1st fulltime job in a startup in Boston (april 2016) gave up on my h1b application process during last date saying that "As you have 2 other chances (2017 & 2018), you need not to apply this year. We'll apply next year for sure." In next 2 months the company was in loss and 80% of staff was laid off (Luckily not me) and told that they got a grace period of 6 weeks to show profits to investors. But i spoke to company's CTO, told him that with my visa challenges i cant work in a unstable environment and resigned my job. (Shouldn't be unemployed on my visa for long time if total layoff is done after 6 weeks). So to avoid risks i got into apple on a contracting position (front end UI Developer)with a staffing firm. (Sorry for long story.. but its better to know to suggest me) Now im looking for a better fulltimer opportunity. Should i look for a new job now? Or stay with my staffing firm? Any notable firms sponsoring h1b visa? Im on OPT now. I appreciate any references (valley area). Thanks in advance.
I am in a very similar situation. Applied last 2 tries through IBM but could not get through the lottery. Last week I switched to other company based in Boston. They will be sponsoring my H1.
Great. Hope our lottery gets selected this time. :)
In case of next year...if the same thing happens again. You have a way of keeping job by joining first day CPT online University course, Means double masters(it's legal).
Thats what i'm thinking too. So we can apply h1b again during CPT right?
Yes. But you need to check which H1B cap it goes in like student(20k) or regular(65k).
What is your degree?
Masters degree.
Another option is to find a job with one of these large corps in your own country and then get transferred as an L visa
This is a good option.
If I were you , I would just marry a citizen .. This CPT, OPT, H1B lottery, H1 transfer and then 2-3 decades of GC wait is not worth wasting your life..
Well, it needs to be a bona-fide marriage. Not like you can decide when that would happen and doing it non bona-fide would be more stressful, risky and potentially life damaging than any other option.
There are plenty of people willing to fake it for a few years for cash. Of course might be hard to fake if you are already legally married with children...
U have one year. Get Canadian perm in Toronto. Work for well known companies. Come back easy after 3 years.
How to get a Canadian perm?
Don't know the details, look into it. But if u have a bit of money saved up and a university degree I believe the whole process is less than a year, maybe 6 months.
Dude, there are plenty of interesting countries other than the US. People need to stop acting like this is still the US of the 80s or something.
Google "speedy entry Canada" they have a process, if you have worked in USA you get expedited in he process and may end up getting visa and writhin 6 months... all the best buddy!
Yeah .. thanks bud.. that will be my Plan B.. Plan C is doing a dual masters.

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
If I was you, I will keep looking for a New position who are willing to apply h1b and when you apply h1b next year, I would also talk to couple of staffing firms to apply for your h1b as an backup. I would not simply reply on 1 h1 application.
Very wise... i should've applied multiple applications this year. Found few last minute firms but not trustworthy. Should start looking up ahead of time next year.
It is legal and allowed. If the same person had job offers with multiple companies, each application is separate. However, it's true that some people abuse this, although legally. Well, you gotta do what you gotta do...
