Moving to US on H1B in March, what need to know before moving ? Any tips are welcome, thanks !
Leave the company as fast as you can if they don’t apply green card for you
I'm thinking I'll wait for six months then will ask them to apply , I'll offer to pay anything I can, is that a bad idea ?
Let them start with the costs, don't pay for anything you don't have to.
If you are coming onsite through WITCH COMPANIES (Wipro, Infy, TCS, CTS, HCL) then quit after 6 months. Don’t believe if they say they will do green card after 1 year and it won’t happen!
Thank God I'm not, it's a small company though
USA is land of opportunities. But if you are coming for solely for the purpose of GC or immigration then think again. Because grass on other side is always green, once you come you may not like it. So be sure on your purpose and be it meaningful
Honestly I couldn't care less about immigration, it's a pain in the ass really. My intention for GC is either be able to have a side hustle and b not have to leave within 60 days.
Not sure what's bothering you. But GC in eb-1 would take atleast 6 months of it's without any audit. So evaluate all these before coming and be prepared. Home country always better and have one less thing to worry about immigration
Apply for a green card ASAP.If your from India : Use this time to grow your career.Have a 5-10 year plan where you take large career risks and grow your career as much as possible.Always be prepared to leave the country due to potential visa renewal/transfer rejections. Don’t sit in one role /company just because your “waiting” for the green card. Max out 401k
Why Max out 401k? Any advantages?
Say OP works for 6 years and has average income of 175k across those 6 years.Assume his company gives a decent 3-4% match he is looking at a decent nest egg in his 401k when/if he returns to home country.
If you are a manager for at least 1 year and coming from same company then it's great for you. You most likely will get green card within couple of years. Else forget about GC for do not know how many years may be 20-30 year more... SO if you think you are going to do side hustle then better stay in India and do your hustle.
If you are not married, then marry someone who was not born in either India or China, that is, if they are not American citizens already.
If you are born in India don't come.
