How reliable are used BMW convertibles?
Also what are other great convertibles?

And how dumb is it to buy one for Seattle?

Not saying they aren’t fun, just reminding you that the high cost isn’t up front only. I know people who change their own oil, and others who go to the dealer for anything and everything. All of those folks recognize that they are, on a continuous basis, paying a premium for their BMW. Comes with the territory.

Beemers generally have a higher maint costs, but that's not unexpected.

As for Seattle: BMWs are RWD mostly, and it rains alot. With quite a bit of hills further east in Redmond to Issaquah. So take it easy driving on curvy terrain + rain until you know what you're doing. Get all season tires, do not get summer tires (some packages might come with).

Other Convertibles: MX-5 is probably best bet. S2000 if you can get one.

Useless in Seattle. You could probably get 3-4 months to drive top down but that’s it. It freaking drizzles all the time.

Get something with a power hard top opposed to a soft top and it will be much nicer in poor weather while still being fun in nice weather.

I’d suggest renting one over the weekend and see if you really really love a convertible (in Seattle) first
