Burn out at work and an offer I declined a few months back appeared again. Should I take it?

I am a hardware engineer (EE) based in India from past 1 year so visa issues are not there for me. So work at my current company is quite hectic with multiple projects and their deadlines independently going in parallel. Sometimes the day starts for me as early as 7 AM and meetings are there till 11 PM. Most people I know work till 11 PM to 12 AM.

I was offered a position at another company in August. Salary was marginally better but the company has a good reputation, especially in work-life balance. The only reason I did not accept that offer was because few people said that work in that team is not too good. At that point, I did not feel the burn either at my current company.

But right now, the workload is so high that I dont get much time to prepare or so frustrated that I cannot focus on other things. Even my sleep cycle is badly disturbed. Sometimes work is good but the pressure, deadlines and parallelism required is immense. From the past 2 weeks, I am even considering the option to resign since it's unbearable for me. I gave some interviews but they did not go anywhere partly due to crunch with time and mental toll.suddenly out of blue this HR asked me if I am still interested in the position that I declined earlier. So at that time I refused but given my current state I am considering that option.

The team there still might have some issues in terms of work quality compared to my current work though. That’s the trade off, not sure if it’s worth.

Please suggest.

Thanks but The issue is not money but mental peace. The place I am currently working has decent work but stressful as hell. If I take this offer, work quality might not be best but company work culture is good. The only reason I am thinking is generally HR doesn’t come back like this, especially if team is good and in high demand.
I refused this offer earlier as I was confident of acing something soon but then my current work picked up like never before. And I am now technically screwed.

I understand the issue is not money, but the recruiters reached back out because they really need you (or someone just like you). They should (and are probably willing to) pay a premium for that.

You know your current situation is untenable but they don’t. Use that to your advantage.

I would add 15-20% to their offer and say you’ll join immediately for that amount. Future you will thank past you for it.

  • Exactly, they're desperate so now you're negotiating from a position of strength.

Comments so far aren't paying attention to OP's current problems, and focus just on money. This is Blind. So, no surprises.

    OP,
It looks like you don't see a future in your current job where you can have a healthy WLB and be happy, and you want out. What you are trying to decide is whether to take an easy and more practical way out by accepting the other offer.

Here's my suggestion. Respond to recruiter and set up a call. Tell them that you were serious about them in the past and tell them what pushed the needle in favor of the other opportunity. Ask to speak to the hiring manager and try and see if you can get a clearer picture of your role, and also see if there are other projects in the pipeline that you could take on.

That being said, as a secondary benefit ask for a revised and competitive offer.

Worst case you will switch and be at a job that doesn't push you enough , use that opportunity to work on side projects for the company and grow within , or side projects or interviews and bounce . You might be asked why you are hopping , but you can definitely get past that question as long as you're prepared.

Thanks. Yes you are spot on. I know someone who worked in that team and he suggested that company has good work culture but team quality of work isn’t that good. Personally even I had some doubts so refused it around 3 months back. I was hopeful to ace something better.
But my current work is brutal now, even if it’s little good quality at times. It can start at 7 AM and last till 12 AM. So loosing mental focus.
I moved from US 1 year back. So the current mental load I have is adding more negative to my R2I experience, even forcing me to think of resignation.
