Can’t speak too much for SF location, but I know a few folks from there. On the whole SIE culture is pretty sweet. Mostly laid back, although I’ve heard some teams in SF are always battling resourcing issues because there is a high turnover. Compensation in San Diego and Orange County seem to be pretty good for the areas, but I’ve heard SF lags behind other companies. My advice would be to fight hard for a high starting salary. Performance increases are pretty easy to get: show some initiative, do some stuff outside of your job role, and make sure to document it in your annual review. Growth depends on location and need. Express interest in promotion regularly and always be on your manager to find out what you need to do to get promoted or else you’ll be passed by.

    • Really appreciate you taking the time in replying. I gave an initial salary number to the recruiter and we’re still moving ahead with with next steps so I hope I aimed high enough to where they can meet it, or try to. I’m more interested in growth at this stage in my career and willing to make less. Everything else sounds great so far. Thanks!

Can confirm. But in general, even the sf office is pretty cool to work at. Working on a console launch happens once or twice in your working lifetime.

  • Did an interview loop with the SF team several months back. Great experience. People were very nice. Seemed like a great place to work. Pay was on the lower end for SF standards. Ended up passing on opportunity. Also did a phone interview with team in Los Angeles. Completely different experience.

I’ve never been to the LA office but have worked with some people there. I feel like they have a little different vibe from some of the offices too. I’ve been to OC and San Diego (RB) and they seem similar culture wise. The various SIE game studios may be a bit different though, as they still operate pretty independently from the larger SIE.

Any tips on not getting auto-rejected on applications?
