HBO Warner Media merged with Discovery

It got announced today that HBO Warner Media is merging with Discovery Inc in a $43Billion all cash deal. What does the future looks like for Discovery, HBO and stock performance in coming future?

Netflix cTc10 May 17, 2021

Only certainty is that Zaslav is going to continue to get paid ridiculously well https://deadline.com/2021/04/discovery-ceo-david-zaslav-made-37-7-million-last-year-down-from-45-8-million-in-2019-1234747843/

Do you think, Hbo+discovery will be a strong competitor to Netflix in coming future?

Netflix cTc10 May 17, 2021

It should be as long as they don't screw anything up. They're basically just combining two different content libraries. It's like a less impactful version of the Fox acquisition by Disney. Although they're predicting $3B of synergies and Disney only forecasted $2B when they bought Fox so I assume there will be a lot of layoffs which could lead to them screwing things up

What happens to people with unvested ATT RSUs?

HBO LongNite2 May 28, 2021

Good questions. And rsu just started recently

Cornerstone gshsjdj May 17, 2021

Yes. There was a spinoff merger announced by AT&T to merge hbo warner media content with Discovery.

Hbo shows are so much better than Netflix !

HBO wydu77 May 17, 2021

What this means is Warnermedia/HBO gets to go through the 4th round of executive shuffling and layoffs in 3 years. It’s been an absolute shitshow and I’ve left a while ago. Strategies changed every 3 months, absolute monsters running engineering to burnout.

HBO oui453s May 17, 2021

But it could be the last time!!!!

HBO wydu77 May 17, 2021

It’s never the last time until you make it your last time ;) I managed to get a severance so I have no complaints.

Disney 465vbrd May 18, 2021

Who would even want to work there now? It just seems like pure reorg hell.

HBO hauvnejzne May 18, 2021

And they just laid off 2000 engineers a few months ago. We are short of hands.

Pandora hd45jd May 19, 2021

Hmm 2000 engineers sound like a very big number.

Discovery is paying more. I wanted to know about the culture and review process.
