The scope looks like 5-6 people (direct reports) at Google and Asana will have 30+ people ( 3-4 teams ) to technically look at.

Which to choose ? Waiting on numbers still from both.
I want to keep in mind all factors like TC, economy change over this recent times so stability, WLB.
Edit: I already have google scale FAANG experience for >5 years.

  • Ask yourself. In 5 yrs .. do you want to see Google on your resume or Asana ? The number of directs or team members doesn’t hold much weight on a profile as much as company profile. Also think about whether asana will give you the flex of jumping into various teams and tech stacks

At the end of the day, only the TC show your value, I prefer to be a SWE at google than a senior staff somewhere else

Hands down Google. 6 Googlers reporting to you >> 30 asana engineers. Not dissing the latter. They must be good, but at google you are working with the best of the best, cream de la creme of engineering talent in the world. Plus planet scale impact.

    No comparison.

Unless you have prior Google level experience, go for L6 TL at Google.

We are talking about the gold standard.

Do asana for health and well-being. Join Google for career.

I see. Sure Asana in this case, as long as that is the direction you want your career to take.

One has direct reports, the other doesn't.

I would probably base my decision on whether I wanted to be EM or IC.

Ask this question after you get the TC numbers, without it, people will pick google for brand name

I can’t speak for Google but assuming this is lead-type role at Asana, you’ll probably work on very high level strategic projects and have high impact across the company, as well as mentorship opportunities to help more junior folks grow in these ways, too.

At Google, I would think that you might have more of an opportunity to work on products that are well-recognized and possibly well-utilized by the general public.
