Hi everyone, I've been lurking this site for a while and was wondering if I could get some help? I completed my loop in Seattle last Thursday. I was originally only being evaluated for an L5 UX Designer role then they told me I was being evaluated for an L6 senior role as well, in addition to having 2 other hiring managers on the loop. When the recruiter extended the verbal offer on Monday, I told him I'd accept it if the numbers made sense. We're meeting this evening to go over the offer. I've been checking levels.fyi and there seems to be a big gap between the numbers there and on Glassdoor, LinkedIn, etc. The average total comp for L5 says $212k on Levels. On Glassdoor, the avg base is 105k and avg sign on is 20k. When the recruiter asked if I had a range in mind on Monday, I let him know that I didn't have much information on it, but thought I could gather L6's total comp range seemed to be between 250-300k (This was before I confirmed I didn't get the L6 role). He said, "wow, no" (in a nice way) and proceeded to tell me about the max base in Seattle as well as the different components of comp and I said, "yep, of course, I know about that - I was going to mention I'd like a base of 140-150." And then he said something else but then later on said, "we're going to get you right below that..." and I have no idea if he's talking about my total comp being below the 140/150 or below 250 figure. Also, we'll be relocating from the Midwest to Seattle and I have confirmation that relocation is included in the offer. If we own our home, do you have any idea of what that relo package looks like? If there's corporate housing, could we get a credit instead for rent at a permanent apartment? Do they offer any help in finding my fiancé a job, too? This'll be my first time changing jobs in 3 years so I would love any tips, info, help in negotiating with Amazon. I'm currently a senior designer with 6 yoe, 97k base and 10k bonus. Ideally, total comp of ~215k is what I'm going after. Thank you!!
Careful with levels.fyi. You might be confusing job families. I’m not sure that designers have the same salary bands as SDEs.
They do not. From what I gather it’s closer to PM compensation.
200k is supposedly dead center average for L6 UX (I don’t really know if this is true, it is what I was told) It is very unlikely to go up to 300 250k is probably absolute max and not easy to get unless they’re DYING to get you in. You can ask for 215 and negotiate down if needed. I would recommend asking to get the salary portion as high as possible (155 is the max) I don’t know about corporate housing - nor relocation package but be prepared for Seattle rent prices. It’s insane. I don’t think Amazon offers job placement assistance for spouses.
Not, OP, but thanks so much for the reference point! Would you happen to have an idea of what L4/L5 looks like for design/user researchers?
Thanks everyone for the input! They offered 130/37/55. Full relo included. I asked if they could do 180 total this year (right now it's 171k) and they're gonna get back to me. But honestly, after realizing I was looking at the wrong job bands (SDE), I couldn't be happier with this raise. Thanks, all!
Is your relo package for homeowner? Does it include seller agent fee/commissions or closing costs?
Can someone PM me please? I'm also in a similar situation. Thanks

Levels.fyi is usually for SDE roles and I'm not sure what the levels are usually like for UX. Hopefully someone here knows. Good luck. If you want a competitive offer you'll need competing offers btw
But if designers start submitting their TC that'd be greattttt (in Lumburgh voice)
