My last company kept paying me because my manager apparently never put in leave order after I left the company. Now I get an email from them asking to pay back ~$300 more than what I was paid over the last 2 months. Can I do anything about this as its their fault plus they are wanting me to pay more?
Pay it back. You need them for background checks.

No you don't. Legally they are obligated to tell anyone who asks, with your authorization, you start, end dates and your last title. They legally NOT allowed to say anything else including reasons for leaving, reviews, what they think of you, etc.
Is it even worth spending your time posting here just for $300??
What do you mean? Do I just give them $300 extra without any research?
Of course you have to pay it back. How can you even think about keeping the money irrespective of legality. As for the extra $300, just question them and give them proof about the underpayment.

You shud've contacted them the day u got the extra paycheck. What were u expecting?
What does this have to do with dignity? Itās their fault plus some they want extra? I donāt have a problem with paying them back whatever ended up in my bank account.
Give it back as itās not worth the hassle!! Talk to to them about the $300 call them - ask why are you asking for more ??
Pay it back, now worth the headache it will cause
leave the country asap and then retire as monk in India from those 4 paychecks

They are asking you to reimburse the tax part ($300)?
I dont know where the $300 comes from..? They want me to refund the 4 paychecks + $300.
When pay leaves their account, it is like say, -$5000 but you get +$4000 because -$1000 goes to tax. But they would ask you to pay back +$5000 so you end up covering tax? Some people said paying back sign-on bonus works this way but I suck at accounting.
