HRIS Jobs with Workday

Seeking advice on how to get opportunties to work with Workday software. I’ve worked with Oracle and SAP HCM but struggling to get jobs with companies who use Workday because they require Workday experience. I was previously an HRIS analyst and now a HRIS Manager and am willing to take on a lower role if I can get to learn Workday. However, I’m really worried about how the title change impact to my career.

If you're willing to shell out the cash, Workday has training courses they offer. It's not applied experience, but it will help you bridge that gap.

Thanks ! I thought I need to be working for a company currently using Workday to do the training courses? If not, I am totally open to investing in myself that way.

No, I don't believe you need to work at an existing company for those courses. Another route I've seen people take is through consulting. Firms like Accenture/DayNine will train you on systems to send you to clients. That gives you both training and applied experience.

Become an expert at Workday on your own time. If you really want those jobs then you'll dive into learning. There are tons of free sources to learn and even demo instances that you can go into or setup to work in and get hands on experience on your own as part of your learning. Don't wait for your learning to come to you, go out and grab it. Also, once you learn about the basics product feature set, you could create a matrix comparing the similar software you've used (SAP) and talk about that knowledge in your resume, by feature set instead of by application name. Hope that makes sense!

This is great advice and an excellent idea.

You do have to be working with a Workday client or partner to gain access to training and community. You can try applying to management consulting companies (Cognizant, Accenture) that offers HCM Workday services. Your HRIS experience might grant you an opportunity to learn across different HCM platforms.

oEsp65 is correct, you with a client or partner to get training. Not sure where your located, Accenture is always hiring. Some companies that are transitioning to Workday will give you an opportunity, they have data in there old system they will need to be transferred over. Having experience in other HRIS systems is beneficial. Workday is taking over rapidly.

I started in HR operations doing actual transactions in Workday. Then moved into reporting. Was trained by the company business processes. Then jumped companies and did more reporting using legacy systems and promoted to lead the company’s Workday implementation in data conversion and reporting work streams. Company paid Workday training prior to implementing. After a year I transitioned away from being Workday Admin into more exciting work.
