I wonder if anyone had experience of transferring investments between two HSA bank accounts? I have them from old and new employer. I called HSA bank three times and every time they told me different things regarding whether Investments should be luquidated firsts it not, before transferring to new account. I cannot find any documented procedure online. Is anybody here aware of the process?
I transferred from Lively to HealthEquity. I just had to fill out a form and send it to HE. Took 8 weeks though. Don't liquidate if possible, you might be on the hook for state tax on capital gains if you do.
Liquid and rollover should be fine
What kind of customer service is this if they can’t explain the process? I’ve done it, just fill out the paperwork and no liquidation required.
Usually the transfers are done as cash.

Best LCOL or MCOL city?
I’ve transferred from HealthEquity to Optum, and my company will be transferring us back to HealthEquity next month. It’s similar to transferring any investment account, except the available investments are frequently not the same... Short answer: it’s easier to liquidate assets first. Btw consider Lively HSA - totally free for individuals, with (mostly) free investing in (mostly) anything via TD Ameritrade.
can I just open separate free HSA account to trasfer there, while I have a new one with employer?
Yes you can multiple HSA accounts. But you employer will only contribute to the company-sponsored one.
