HW Performance modeling leading to architecture jobs
Anyone moved from DV to Performance modeling - like CPU DV to CPU Perf engineer. If so what did you do to get there ? Replying here as multiple ppl asked on dm. 😀 Treat this like a multi year journey and slowly build your skill set towards a perf arch role. It requires understanding of both hw and sw stacks, and very strong debug and competitive analysis skills. Learn the APIs and how they get implemented, write some samples to target perf metrics. Sometimes the role will need c++ modeling, so coding skills help. Some scripting to automate data collection and pattern matching is always useful, enables you to spend more time on meaningful debug. Having done functional design and validation can be a good step towards building strong fundamentals. Lastly, whatever domain the role targets, you need to build a good understanding of the system. Like I said, multi year journey, one step at a time. IMHO, good perf architects are way stronger technically than functional architects. They have to be - to add value.
