My wife is a HW engineer. She's got 6 years of full system design( part Procurement, prototyping, DFM, testing, working with sales for turnbacks). She's very smart and good at what she does but her experience however is designing low tech systems at tier 3 automotive suppliers in Detroit area (think motor control boards/HVAC control boards/occupant sensing systems).
We got to discussing our next career moves yesterday and while we agreed it makes sense
for me to remain an automotive SWE or move into Product Mgmt (lots of opportunities in Detroit itself) we could not find much info in terms of obvious career moves in HW while staying in Detroit other than becoming an Engineering Manager (pretty difficult in Michigan considering most managers stay there until they retire and not very many openings).
Are there PMs for Hardware jobs in Michigan? Are there remote Hardware PM jobs that pay well?
