How to do that? How can I convince the new team/manager/company that I can do it? What skills or projects do I need to have on my resume? I have SystemVerilog, UVM, Python and C++ exp
If not fully software role, then what other opportunities can I look for? I have been solving leetcode easy
As I was saying, in Leetcode and ctci.. You will be writing a single "program" to solve the question. If you are able to solve those you are a good programmer. But to be a software engineer, you need to be lot more than that in my opinion. If it's an option for you look for opportunities which specifically says programmers with job duties including html/js sql and other basic skills. That will be a good start towards a swe role.
But how do I even get the recruiter or hiring manager's serious attention, they are going to reject my resume just because of my current job role
I'm in the same boat as you. The easiest way to transition is it to move internally first. Find a s/w team you like. And work on something small. Build a relationship with them and move when they feel you're ready. Get some experience, understand the basics that others are talking about here. Finally make that transition to your dream sw job. This may sound long and arduous, but it's better than having to take a step down by trying to switch out directly.
How do you move internally to SW in AMD? Curious
With the skills you mentioned, I'd say you would be qualified as a programmer, but not Software Engineer. Within Intel you'll be just fine. But in a Software Company those wouldn't be enough. Try to read about design patterns, architecture, SOLID principles etc. Try to do some small projects on your own and showcase them. Talk about its architecture and design. That's how you can convince you can so SW job. I have seen many HW ppl shift to so called SW roles, without understanding the above topics and produce a pile crap as their work product.
I'm a SWE at Google and I don't know what SOLID is. I'm not even trolling here...you just need to practice Leetcode or an equivalent like CtCI
Good for you mate!
