Hey y'all, A 10 yr hardware dude pushing 40. Did a stint at one of the FAANG cos(they make a very popular ebook reader). Was put on pip, crashed out, thrashed around and now shoveling crap at my present place. Think I just burnt out and there is no going back.š. Couldn't code my way out of a brown bag before but been taking Coursera Python course and learning a lot and actually enjoying it. I find that solving codingbat and Rosetta code problems very cathartic!. Real question is does a guy like me with 10 years of irrelevant experience doing HW design even stand a chance at getting through the riggamarole of the coding interview. Reading up Skiena book. Planning to Leetcode the living daylight out of me. Even the Google recruiter I have been talking to has been very encouraging. But don't know if my resume will even make it past the resume tool. Not much if any work related projects just a GitHub portolio with some course related Python code. How do I hustle to get my resume at the hands of the hiring manager. Any tips anyone can offer me will be much appreciated.
To be honest, someone with your background has a great chance of getting into Google. We love people with quirky and non-traditional backgrounds and as long as you can prove that you are smart during interviews, you are are in good shape. Good luck, man!
How do you do that when they make you solve stupid leetcode puzzles?
Most questions I see arenāt too puzzley. But they do have multiple possible answers.
That's what my friend at Google also told me. The irony is that I interviewed twice with Alphabet already. Once for a HW test role, once for a HW role with Waymo. Rejected both times. Apparently my reviews were good but never made it to HC. Thinking of interviewing in March - April timeframe. Just need to get my head in the game.
Waymo is a terrible place in general. Read the reviews on glassdoor that give a window into their culture. Try for Google's hardware team that work on various products. They have a variety of hardware positions open and you should br able to fit in there.

I barely even read resumes when I interview candidates. A bunch of My coworkers studied bio. Youāre fine. Just focus and be good at at least one thing.
