Is hardware even worth learning? I'm a mfg engineer with a degree in Electrical engineering and a minor in comp Sci. I Need to make a career move to get my TC up. Hardware engineering is hard to learn in my opinion, not nearly as much resources as software. Is it even worth pursuing hardware engineering?
Not everyone makes decisions solely on TC basis. Some people like to work on things they enjoy.
I am also a HW person with an EE degree. If TC is what you’re after, it seems that software is on fire right now. There’s an unreal amount of money being paid for those skills (esp in HCOL areas in the West). You can still make a good living doing HW but it won’t come close to the earning potential of the people you see on blind!
If you write script as part of the job might as well be doing platform sw
If you're passionate about hardware and don't enjoy software, there's nothing wrong with choosing hardware as a career path. Just be aware that there are more software positions than hardware positions, and software positions tend to pay more (with some exceptions). This is trivializing a fair bit, but I'd put it this way: For every position involved with developing a piece of hardware, there are ten more positions for writing the software to make said hardware do something, and that something is always becoming increasingly complex.
