I am considering an offer from Thumbtack as a Software Engineer. What do people think of it's potential in the future? They seem to have a strong engineering team. I also have an offer from Amazon but am not as interested in working at a huge company.

The company is shooting for a gigantic market which is not exactly winner takes all, so it has great chances of doing very well.
As my coworker said, you can request to talk to anyone in the company, but feel free to AMA (publicly or via DM)
I would take the amazon offer or else find a start up that's actually making a useful product.
