A couple of my friends joined. None of them are really that bothered by immigration challenges (they are from India and have 4 years of H1B remaining). If the possibility comes that they have to move to a different country, they said they’ll move.
But I can tell you, if immigration is even relatively a concern for you especially that you don’t have an I-140, more TC is not worth your peace of mind.
Square, it comes down to risk appetite. There is no right or wrong answer because it is the unknown.
My Priority date is 2 years or so away, so the upsurge in October could get me there and I could finally achieve the dream. But meta could have issues, PERM could get rejected, I could get PIPed, any thing could happen. I choose that Im okay with the risks. Worst case, I switch in 1-2 years but with great TC and FAANG under my belt.
The thing is, you could disagree with every one of my preferences and say it’s not for you, and that’s okay too.
So do what your gut is telling you. Think about it a lot. Either look at pros and decide it’s worth it. Or look at the cons and decide it’s not worth it. Take a call and move on to bigger and better things :)
This will completely destroy Meta since 60-70% of their engineers are on H1B and require PERM. No wonder they're being very quiet about this. I heard this is keeping Zuck up at night.. it should be the biggest headline story in tech.
This is definitely not true. You can check how many H1-B applications were filed by each company
I understand people think immigration is the cause of all evil, but you can see the average salary they offer are much higher than all top visa sponsors and it is even higher than average household income for the entire US.
They haven't started filing yet. They've been telling internally to wait since last 5months but have made no progress. Some are already leaving company because of this.
But when would they apply? As they have a back log of 2020 and 2021. They said 1 year for perm prep and 6-8 months for adjudication. I feel this is a lot,

But definitely, it can also attribute to loss in achieving head count goals because of this issue (by a small fraction, but nevertheless).
