I got a PIP, first ever in my career. I had been performing poorly for six months but got a raise last four months. Can you believe part of my poor performance is not participating enough?! Startup life for you. I'm expecting to be let go no matter what improvements I make because the timing doesn't make any sense. Blind community, can you help me understand what my options are at this time especially regarding unemployment. I haven't signed anything but I did agree to make improvements. Many thanks everyone!
1. Leetcode 2. Reach out for referrals 3. Interview and jump ship
PIP = fired. I don’t think you will be able get unemployment after you get fired.
Damn, that really sucks! Resignation?
Check with your local unemployment agency. I believe only layoff qualifies for unemployment.
You get unemployment from a separation agreement so long as it’s not “for cause”. Keep putting the work in and make them do the dirty work. Start doing research on applying, but $400 a week (unemployment) is likely not going to cut it so start applying for new jobs.
Don't completely understand the separation agreement and "for cause"
Separation agreement is the paperwork that goes along with being fired. "For cause" means you did something really bad. (But isn't PIP supposed to show cause is performance?)
At larger companies there would be a small chance of recovery (could argue bad manager/switch teams ECT.). At a smaller company you are pretty much out. Interview, interview, interview. The unemployment you could receive is almost jot worth your time to go collect.
I disagree it will cover your health insurance which is very important. And why not collect it.
Sorry to hear. I’m on a PIP myself. How’s crew btw? I interviewed there sometime back. Seemed pretty cool.
Seek counseling. They won’t be able to terminate you.
Now that's an interesting line of thought- how so? Bc it would be a medical condition to be in counseling??
This isn’t totally accurate but it will be a lot harder to get rid of you. You need to go on medical leave but you need a Dr or Psychiatrist to sign off on it. Then you are disabled and have a lot more protection.
Your 3 options 1. Start applying to jobs 2. Start applying to jobs 3. Start applying to jobs
🤣 thanks. Now for unemployment?
Schedule all you health/dental visits while you have insurance, I guess? I used a cobra extension once not sure it still works
