I lived through 80's and 90's and my parents have always want me to be an upright person.
But I think in the recent 7, 8 years, my mom wanted me to be a crooked person, going by the unwritten rules of corporations, not writing down any docs to build power, and tell other people things only if they are in your "circle" and just tell them half of what you know, build relationship with manager and give "tiny reports" of coworkers to the manager, brown-nose the manager. Why? I think the reason is, if you are an upright person, how do you compete with the crooked people?
How about you?

I love them both but they sure as hell aren't standing in the way of my career
Do they have any credibility in terms of previous work or managerial exp?
Feels like they're a bit too involved in your career man
