Looks like there was more drama amongst senior leadership on HR and diversity recently. Is Uber a different company, or does it just merely have a different veneer? Interested in the work there but hesitant still.
Waiting for the “Just a few bad apples…” excuse
War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Diversity is strength.
Welcome to 1984 it just took us an extra 44 years
Heard it was still bad from a woman who recently left. Says it's still horrible for women who are still there. There's no way I'd subject myself to it.
So great place for men’s career advancement?
The environment is bad for women and minorities
Such blanket statements are just not true. I’m a minority and have had an overall great experience. I think like every company, org & team matter the most. I also have female teammates who have had equally as good or better experience than I have. The company is definitely not perfect, I haven’t found one that is but overall I think it’s gotten better with new leadership. There’s still more ground to cover.
Minority here and completely agree with ICWW27.
Yeah it's pretty bad, very political and confrontational environments
People, especially ex-employees (like the one above) and outside observers, will always have confirmation bias and will seek to confirm their biases by listening only to one side. I invite you to interview and see for yourself. I'll tell you one thing: no matter how much things improve, there will always be ex-employees who feel jilted, like with any company. And we'll never change some outside peoples' minds no matter what.
The design director I talked to was unbelievably cool. Agreed about the jilted confirmation bias.
Design lost some very strong members this year. But in general, I'd tell you if you're worried about the Uber reputation stuff, design has never been at the epicenter of the company's controversial culture. It is a pretty chill org with a lot of solid people. If you've had good interactions so far, you can take them at face value; there's no secret skeleton in the design closet.
Uber has changed for the worse. Dara is in a rush to take embrace mediocrity
Which ironically says to outside observers that it's changed for the better (read: much less intense/competitive environment).
Ugh. Major bummer. Get enough of that shit at Amazon as it is, which of course wants you to believe they have a high bar and hate mediocrity. Fuck.
How did 6x bonus multipliers work?
I am a minority. I came from Google and I love it here at Uber. I was super skeptical before joining Uber. However, I am glad I made the switch.
From Amazon, wouldn’t be worried about it. You will love it!
