In the Seattle area, it seems that if you hear anyone talking badly about their job, they most likely work at Amazon. You never really hear anything bad from Microsoft folks. Maybe that the work is boring or slow but never a truly miserable experience that would prevent them from wanting to work.. Have any of you on Blind had a bad experience working at Microsoft? Or strong feelings as to why someone should not work there?
Few old guys at Microsoft play a bit of politics..that's the only problem..
Just the old guys? Come on...the entire organization loves to shift blame.
I don't have a bad experience. I'm just bored with what I'm doing
Which group?
Cloud +AI
I went to Amazon to escape the Azure on-call load. It was brutal.
Which azure team did you work at?
You mean, there are teams in Azure where on-call is not an issue? (I worked their for few years and spoke to many... Finally run away from there and do not regret. That's in Azure culture, cultivating on a very high level.)
Some people complain too much wherever they are. Microsoft is a good company to work but it will depend where you work. I already worked for 16 companies and my experience you need to play the cards where you are and if you don’t like it leave for another opportunity.
Wow, quite a lot. Can I ask what is your yoe?
Microsoft complaints are usually around lower pay than Google or Facebook, no free food and using too many msft specific technologies. The latter is changing (git, cross platform) but the first two are just whiny entitled folks.
What's wrong with saying google and Facebook pay more?
Nothing wrong with it at all. Though I just don't understand it. MS has great wlb in my experience. The flip side is that you deal with lower pay. Complaining about it makes no sense because the folks complaining can always change companies to Google or FB or Amazon or wherever. The ones that stay here and complain I assume don't have the skills to excel at those other companies. So ulimately they're getting paid what their worth is, whatever MS pays them. Instead of complaining, improve your skills and change companies. Consequently, I agree with the poster above. It's just whiny entitlement since they are too lazy to get a high paying job at another company.
I love microsoft - atleast you get respect . I have been at amazon , Uber and I cannot say how bad Uber was, amazon was a lot better , and I like microsoft. So depends on your state of mind , if you are young and don’t care about working on any junk and feel excited and super pumped for no reason - choose companies like Uber. If you are looking for long term respected and stability choose google , Microsoft , amazon or Facebook.
What do Starbucks and WhatsApp have in common? People who run them grew up at Msft. It’s where I’ve had some of my best jobs. Msft is also one of the worlds most valuable companies. It’s not just luck and terrible employees that made it so.
Depends entirely on having a shitty manager (like I did for the second semester) or not. I can say that, without a doubt, that year was the worst time I had anywhere, out of the sheer incompetence and self-entitlement that jerk had.
Ha. If only that were a problem unique to Msft :)
This is what you say when you are yourself incompetent - whenever someone says shitty manager , I also believe that the person saying that is shitty - you cannot blame others for your situation - if you want someone who just promotes you for no reason , that is a shitty manager for others
Azure is almost as bad as AWS. UWP is the worst. Some teams may be boring.
Which teams are notoriously boring?
Office
