They absolutely sold it indirectly. You want data, sure, buy 500k worth of ads and we open the hose for you. Incredibly deceptive and slimy. I'd much rather they told they sell it and have clear agreements with buyers of data. I've actively encouraged all my family to move off FB. That said, I am short term buyer of FB stock.

    • “Open the hose for you”????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Does Google open the hose for you if you spend $500,000 on Ads? Oh wait they’re too busy building censored search for China on the down low. 🙌

Of course not. It’s much too valuable.

  • They don’t have to sell it directly. There’re many ways to profit on user data.

    • I guess that’s where a lot of people and those who snort the Facebook coolaid differ in opinion.

Giving access to a 3rd party to collect data for a fee is selling user data.

The one extra step of making the 3rd party do the actual collection does not absolve Facebook or any other tech company.

      Cute whatabouism btw.

    • Huh? I don’t think you know how OAuth works or how it’s implemented. No one sells access to collect data. Google, Facebook, and all kinds of identity providers (Github, Reddit, LinkedIn etc) give this service for free. Facebook included.

Facebook collects no money when you give Spotify access to your data.
