I heard about it last year but haven’t heard anything else about it after. What was the result? If single family zoning was banned, does it mean we won’t have new single family homes in the future?

In California or in some of the uber dense areas? California has huge tracts of rural farms. I highly doubt they’ll make farmers put up duplex’s on several hundred acres.

Zoning is not the same as forcing people to do something

The question is stated to be state wide.

If a farmer wants to build another house for his kid (this type of thing happens a LOT, especially when you own hundreds of acres), do you not think those zoning changes are forcing them to do things differently?

I suspect that you’ll see some changes to zoning in Uber dense areas while leaving the rural areas out. It just doesn’t make sense.

This is certainly one of those “better to leave it local” situations. That’s why there are local zoning boards.

Removed but sfh is still desired obviously. No one is going to be interested in demolishing their sfh to build a duplex bur the fact that they can increased their property value.

  • Yes, single family zoning is banned. What that means is that developers can choose whether to build single family homes or duplexes on land that previously only allowed single family homes.
