I realize the Health insurance PPO plan in the company is like, you have to pay for the first $500 before anything is paid. So let's say if you see a doctor 2, 3 times in a year and the total bill is $450, well, then you pay it all.

And the thing is, you cannot change the plan to other plans for the whole year until Jan 1 next year, unless if there is anything "life changing" (marriage, having a child)... not even coronavirus situation can let you make a change.

I remember in the past, I was able to see a doctor for $20 co-pay... and I could change the health insurance as often as possible (for a reasonable amount, like once or twice in a year).

How is yours? Is $500 deductible and not able to change quite typical nowadays?

  • it’s been like that. you “realized”, did you not attend your benefits info meeting or read before selecting your insurance for the year?

can you not sound like you doubt everything you read online? I have no reason to lie or distort facts. I had insurance plans from big companies and then from small startups... and I didn't care too much in the past because I seldom go see a doctor. The last I remember... was it $40 copay or something like that... so that makes seeing a doctor once or twice affordable. Otherwise if you pay for 100%, then one time and it can be $120 to $180.

Depends if you go see a doctor for preventive care it should be a copay of 10-40$ and all preventive care like exam and vaccines should be 100% pay by insurance. But for stuff like diagnostic and treatment yes you need to spend the deductible first but it's the same for high deductible plans
