Not good, but if you get an amazing opportunity it's doable esp if you handle the communication and whole matter in a very humble, respectful, appropriately transparent and whilst showing gratitude for the (accepted + being reneged) opportunity, stating that it was simply not a (new) opportunity that one could let go waste.
Such opportunities can be life changing and the receiver of the information (HR, HM) though disappointed usually is understanding.
But fr I wouldnt feel any worse than if you were going to renege before getting the laptop. Just tell them that something has come up and you will no longer be able to participate in employment at the company for personal reasons. If they ask, just say you are not in a place to share. Nothing they can do except be mad
Iβve been tempted. The laptop provided to me by Cisco is/was horrible. But if they want to pay my rate for everything to take three times longer due to incompetent IT, Iβm not going to argue. Shit is slower than my 7 year old personal laptop due to their policies.
