EEOC reported that 75% of harassment incidents in the workplace are never reported! Would love to hear from people who have experienced harassment, bullying or bias in the workplace who did not report it. What stopped you and would having the ability to report anonymously to your HR or leadership change that?
Didn’t report it at the time, because anti-LGBTQ harassment was lawful and company policy tolerated it.
Never did. Was a girl who “sexually harassed” me — never felt in danger but got really really annoying . She kept doing little things over the course of maybe a year? We had to work closely together so I couldn’t just straight out avoid her. Truth be told if she was attractive it may not be as annoying but it’s an uncomfortable reality...
I did. Nothing happened. HR “investigated.” That’s all I heard. Afterward I was not treated the same by leadership. I know this manager has had another formal complaint as well.

I did, one time...and the guy was a known repeat offender. I’m a woman. I came running up to a group of engineers who I’d been trying to catch all day - product was due to be signed off on that day for government acceptance and I needed an answer to one question. The lead engineer knew the answer. As soon as I come up and say I have a question, lead bro says “jiggle like that again and I’ll tell you”. I snapped that I didn’t have time for that, the govt wanted their Gadget that day. The other guys looked shocked or embarrassed but said nothing. I finished the gadget, let the govt know that it was ready, and went straight to HR. The HR guy sighed and looked exhausted when I told him the name. NOTHING happened. Found out later that Lead Bro had been to harassment classes, been written up, spoken to, but his issues were tolerated because he was a brilliant engineer. HR was useless. He’s still there to this day. It took me 6 months to get another job. In the meantime, I befriended a couple of Marines who were serving as SMEs there. They were happy to walk with me when I went to talk to Lead Bro. They would stand behind me and stare at him while he stuttered through answering my questions. Freaking hilarious. Similar bull at different companies afterwards no....I don’t bother with HR. It is truly pointless. If you are being harassed/bullied/tormented by anyone of any gender for any of the usual reasons (sexual, race, religion, orientation) - just keep it in a log in an excel spreadsheet or in google docs. Then talk to a lawyer before you talk to HR (if things get that bad). Or quit and lawyer up later. Or quit and move on.
Stay employed and file while you are employed
Nah I wouldn't do it. As a young and naive intern I once stuck up for a coworker who was getting bullied because of his accent. Guess who HR and the managers decided to bully next?
I hope you left that company. Here are some takeaways. 1) you did the right thing 2) HR and the managers did the illegal thing 3) keep sticking up for colleagues - because it is the right thing to do 4) next time, log it
seems to me that 50% of reported harrassment incidents are fake . "omg he messaged me on slack, i was so terrified, wtf"
HR are almost always ignorant of the law.
