This head hunter for a startup pings me and we exchange notes about the job, resume... In the end he is asked me my current salary. I tried to fend him off saying I will be discussing it when the time comes (offer stage). But that did not work and now he is again asking about my salary. Doesn't he know it's illegal to ask for it in California? Should I tell him that? I'm trying to come up with cheeky lines to get away from this question but it doesn't seem to work!

Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?

Tell him/her that I am not comfortable sharing that info. If they insist further, tell it’s not legal to ask in CA and they can be sued.
It's illegal for a company to ask, not for everybody, so not sure it applies to Head Hunter...
