I've been working in the embedded/firmware world for about 20 years now. Most of my experience is in the networking area (firewalls, switches, routers, etc). I always wanted to put my skills to work in something that seems more beneficial to society. I'm talking about firmware/embedded roles in the health care/medical devices field.
I've heard anecdotally that companies in this area don't pay as well... any truth to this? My skills are definitely transferrable. My only hindrance is no experience working in a regulated industry (which is something most of these roles list as "nice to have").
