My parents and in-laws ( all four 65+) often visit from India. But buying visitors insurance in US is usually expensive given their age and long stays (4 -6 months). Has anyone explored buying it in India at lower price, and availing it here? Are they acceptable here or I need to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed later?

If they stay for 4-6 months, no travel insurance in the world will consider them "visitors". Every travel policy maxes out at 60 days or so.

It's expensive because you're asking for a normal health insurance policy with US coverage. You should look at $12k per year for something decent, with the cost going up around 10% every year as your parents become older.

Might be worth looking into cigna global. They do have some stipulations on how long the stay in the US can be compared to stay in other countries though

We went through a situation recently. The leading Indian insurance companies will have "in network" hospitals. But it's a pain to get the payment done directly. I had to chase the company folks literally everyday for 6 months
