Hedge Fund Compensation Structure

I am expecting an offer from a hedge fund. They are not a public company so RSUs are not an option. Other than salary, is bonus the only additional compensation they offer? The salary data for PM roles at hedge funds is non-existant. If you have any insights please share. YoE: 12 TC: $275k (yes pathetic)

TC is great against all measures except for people who lie on Blind. Don’t sell yourself short.

Sometimes deferred compensation as a part of the fund, but that’s usually taken from the bonus

Pivotal fVMware OP Jan 12, 2020

How does it work?

Expedia Group produxtBrah Jan 12, 2020

some % of your bonus is withheld then the nominal $s of that %age is invested into the fund for some period of time (e.g. 3 years)

Hubspot icedout Jan 12, 2020

Glad to see that even Blind agrees how absurd it is to call 275k "pathetic"

Very interesting that you tagged both Bridgewater and Two Sigma. Because culture wise, those two are about as different as you could possibly get...Are you going to one of those companies? Obviously any given company is "not for everyone" but Bridgewater is **really** "not for everyone". They openly admit that over 25% of people quit in the first 18 months ( https://www.businessinsider.com/biggest-challenges-new-bridgewater-employees-face-2016-3 ) which is extremely high for this industry. If you're thinking about going there, then ok, but make sure you've googled their "radical transparency" and read about the dots baseball card app and understand whether that culture is the right place for you. That firm is incredible polarizing. I know at least five former employees who say working there was literally the worst career decision of their life. I mean, watch the employee videos on Bridgewater's own webpage were employees talk about how they felt so humiliated that they were nearly crying but now they're happy because it made them stronger, etc. Two Sigma, on the other hand, may or may not be the right place for you, but even if you don't like it, you probably won't hate it. The culture there is extremely different.

Ask for carry in the funds

Google sidehustl Jul 27, 2020

What is carry

Salesforce cyMD13 Jan 12, 2020

Probably just base and large bonuses. But the bonuses can be pretty insane, 50-100% of base.
