Both Seattle. FB ML E5: 205/700/100 TC each year including target refreshers and bonus: 510, 443, 475, 508 OCI ML IC5: 245/930/40 TC each year (no bonus or refresher standard): 517, 477, 477, 477 OCI is slightly more in the first three years, but there is the annual vesting cliff each year, which is riskier than FBs quarterly vesting. Also, more stock exposure since the lack of refreshers mean I am locking in todays price for four years. OCI is a higher level and might be a faster growth path in general. It is building out a new team/org. Getting promo to E6 at FB seems years off and only if I find a project at the right scope. However, FB has tons of problems and transferring teams sounds easy. Also, much better benefits. Any advice? Pick one or post comment. Thanks!
This is a no brainer. Fb any day
Why?
No one gives a dang about Oracle. (except apparently that they pay so well) Every human worldwide who has used the internet knows about Facebook. Millions of people thinks Facebook *is* the internet.
In OCI. Just pick FB offer and run. In OCI you canāt get promoted to IC6. So your promotion point is not worth it. I would say you will have better impact at FB.
How was your FB ML interview? Easy/Medium/Hard problems? Whatās the mix looked like?
Yoe?
See above
I don't see Yoe
Tell OCI about your FB offer and then renegotiate FB with that new offer
Do you think FB has room to move? OCI is already higher and they didnāt match.
What language did FB use in your emails? I think you can still negotiate if you frame it the right way, like you're really excited to work at FB but the competing offer is making it difficult, what can they do to help etc
Yoe?
The fact that you're trying to convince yourself to go to OCI makes me question if you even have a E5 offer. OCI just had layoffs - wouldn't go there with a huge pay bump
Haha yes I have the offer. Just struggle taking something that is so lateral in scope.
I mean, I guess you should go to OCI then. I was offered 100k+ in TC difference by OCI and didn't think twice about declining. They know they have to offer a lot more.
OP it seems you have already made up your mind to join OCI and do not care about what people are saying anyway. Wish you the best of luck, and hope you do not regret that move
Sorry, I donāt mean to come across as that. If people were leaning towards OCI I would be taking the other side to ensure a balanced argument is made and not just bias. Iām pretty shocked how one sided this is.
In the last 5 years, Oracle's stock has barely gone up 25%. And they just had layoffs. Please go to OCI. Most if not all people with an actual FB offer would be seriously entertaining this. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/03/25/oracle_headcount_cut/
How was the FB ML interview for E5?
Fine?
Come on man, tell us overpaid regular software engineers what they measure an overpaid ML engineer on.
