Have an offer for both companies. The msft role is more aligned to what I’d like to do long term. Samsara has good tc potential with ipo but role is less interesting to me. Msft tc yr 1 is 235 while yr 2 is 200. Samsara tc is 225 on previous year valuation and many believe valuation should be higher with upside into ipo. Samsara offered rsu so it’s not options Having trouble deciding if I should chase potential tc or steady salary with ability to do something I want to do. In my 30s so I’m kind of in the period I could have one final push to work hard or start coasting
Yoe and is it swe position . Which city ? Are both offers in same city ?
Don’t believe the IPO bs they feed you. Your equity is already diluted as can be and you’re not getting rich. Check and BELIEVE the ratings in glassdoor/other sites - they are REAL. The only reason they aren’t worse is because people in the company create accounts and post one-liner 5-star reviews to offset things and improve recruitment (trust me, I’ve been asked to help with this). Most of what you see is a fascade - the real culture absolutely sucks. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Sorry, but the IPO piece of your comment is completely uninformed and far from truth. Dilution sentence is kind of an indicator of weak understanding of how finance works. RSUs are very undervalued due to our covid downround and company doing really well after it. Whatever equity they get will at least 2x within a year and be liquid most probably by that time. Not sure about the glassdoor reviews but people inquired leadership about it and they said it is not smth they want ever to be done. You should have probably reported if you were asked to write a false review.
I don’t understand finance? Any growth post-downround will be factored into his offer. And your “2x within a year” is probably the same crud his recruiter is probably spewing to seal the deal. You don’t know what the stock will do Nostradamus - you’re just as uninformed as the rest of us. My equity is years old and based on some liberal assumptions , it BARELY might make up for the salary I lost during most of that time.
What is the level and offer breakdown from msft?
If you're in the early stages of your career it's better to go for Samsara.
I’m in my 30s atm. One thing that i think about after my 4 yr vest I could be in my late 30s and who knows how I’ll be with motivation
If you want to cash in on a solid IPO and make a very solid amount of money first, then Samsara might be the best option. But if you’re already well off and don’t care that much about money, then just do work that you’ll love at Microsoft.
