The new Tesla Model 3 P goes from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds
Quick facts: - 39 years old - 12 years web dev experience smaller and mid size nontech companies. - 4 years management my own start up that I was managing 10 people. - current TC 150 + lots of phantom shares. - Too much .Net experience. - Targeting bigger company to max out the TC. - Currently in Canada and would move to Seattle. - In 10- 15 years I might be under too old category. Options: 1 Amazon - SDM L5 - 170 K (Still negotiating) - Yes, Amazon has L5 SDM. No, I'm not happy about it. - SDM L5 is even worse as no control, Small team 4-6 engineer - Getting to SDM L6 takes 1.5 to 2 years base on Blind posts. - Amazon WLB speaks for itself however I'm in a good org which is not as operation heavy 2. Realtor.com - Senior Manager ~210K - Managing 12 people in two teams both backend team (Nodejs) - Much better work-life balance - No room to grow ever. Upper management and my boss are in California. Questions: 1. Which path is better for me in the 10 -15 years horizon as a SDM? 2. How would the potential recruiter look at me comparing a small team in Amazon, Sr. Manager at Realtor.com? 3. Is it worth the name on my resume to work at Amazon for the name for 2 years before changing the job? Is Amazon SDM makes me a much better candidate for companies such as stripe, dropbox, Pinterest, LinkedIn? 4. Would these companies look down at Realtor.com? Side note: I have onsite with Twitter for EM. Would the not-so-cool company streamline my choice?
Twitter is cool now
Lol i like Twitter. Great posts about them on blind. How is their Seattle office? I m applying for position there. Is it isolated and away from all actions or just a regular office?
If you manage your startup for 4 years (and startup you found lived for 4 years), you deserve SDM3 at Amazon, imho. SDM2 can be given to any engineer switching roles. I would bet on more interviews instead of vague possibility of future promotion.
The startup did well to be honest. We have 1.4M revenue and VC valued the company at 17M in April 2019. VC is aggressively closing the west coast office and politely pushing me out while offering me more vesting share, retention bonus etc. What do you mean by bet on more interviews? Push for an interview with other teams in amazon? or interview other companies? or accept L5 and wait for interview to get promotion quicker?
Ah, OK, so you have no job and potential value. You may interview if you have enough money to live or join Amazon, start interviewing in 6 month if you see no good dynamics / do not enjoy working there. With counteroffer, you may even raise your salary at Amazon. Anyway, you’ll get a good experience - positive and negative.
Senior manager 210K? Try Redfin that’s like a SDE2 pay
Its Canada the salaries are much lower in Vancouver. For comparison time 1.5 and change to USD in Vancouver 210 CND same job in Seattle 315 USD
