After a tough month of LC + interviews I am blessed to have the following offers: Google: $310K (L4) Brex: $410K (L5) Two Sigma: $440K (L4) These are my thoughts on the advantages / disadvantages of each: Google + has been my dream company for years + the brand would open doors and impress family / friends + great office - lowest compensation - disappointed not to get L5 Brex + big potential for an IPO within a few years + particularly liked the people I met + remote friendly + can choose split between cash & equity - startup and hear WLB is not great Two Sigma + pays the most + the actual role is most relevant to my background - investment restrictions - office has snacks but no catering - have to use a windows laptop - hedge fund so probably attracts some jerks (my experience with hedge funds) What else? Are you a senior?
currently L4
Just curious, is that like midlevel or high midlevel?
Google for WLB and culture, Two sigma for ambition and $$, Brex for growth and potential $$$
did Two Sigma give you L4(which is equivalent to L5 at Google)?
yeah L4, but I take it levels are less important there
well this is not helpful - each vote category has ~33%
this is the easiest choice to make realize "impressing your family and friends", free lunches, and working on macOS is not more important than 100k+/year and more relevant work experience
Easy choice. Do you want $100+k more a year or show off once a year at Thanksgiving to your cousins who doesn't care about you? If your cousin even meets you at Thanksgiving that is. Bet your parents will like you more if you give them $$ over just 'working at Google'. Go send your parents on some nice dinner or vacation.
Worked for two of these, feel free to DM. Also, Brex faces significant competition from Ramp and Stripe now -- they might keep growing fast, they might not.
Two Sigma if you like the finance domain
yeah not a big fan of finance
Oh what do you mean by this role is relevant to your background?
Mind sharing the split for G?
Is Brex offer at staff engineer level? or maybe I should first ask, are you an engineer?
yep engineer - is L5 considered staff?
my guess is yes, but you should definitely confirm with recruiter. We have SDE-1,sde2 senior engineer, staff engineer, senior staff, PE as the ladder. If it is staff, you should be able to negotiate for more
Depending on your age and situation. If you’re optimizing for stability, Google. If you’re single and young and willing to hustle, go for BREX. The potential for Brex could make you super wealthy.
What order of magnitude == super wealthy here? They do already have ~800 employees.
Yeah it already has a large $7 billion valuation - what do you think its potential is?
