Help me chose the offer

I am currently working at a small consulting firm and onsite with client in East Coast, the work is mundane as we are only given admin stuff like granting access etc. I am currently having offers at both Coginzant and Infosys and need to decide between the two: Infosys: Senior Consultant TC: 78K The job is more about Site Reliability as I understand from the interview there will be training on Kurbernetes, Docker etc Cognizant: Software Engineer TC: 62K The job is on front end software engineering and technologies used will be html, css, javascript, typescript etc I am more inclinched toward the Software Engineering role but given the vast difference in TC, would like some recommendation if it is a wise choice YOE: 6 (1.5 in US)

I would recommend joining Infosys as Cognizant isn't doing good. You can always change roles inside infosys based on your interest.

Why would you choose either of them? How many years of experience do you have? Unless you’re a new grad with <2 years of exp, I would recommend find something else to do. I have worked peanut jobs for ‘experience’ and there’s no glory in eating beans and rice and budgeting every now and then. If you’re not skilled enough, stay at your current job, learn something new and move to a better job. I learned it way too late in the game that you should be paid what you’re worth. Indian companies are notorious to pay little unless you’re connected to the manager/VP somehow.( experienced this too. Almost all other colleagues from the same state as one of the VPs made 10-20% more than I did)

I have 6 YOE but really no skills and I don't have US degree so very limited options for me, not that I don't want to work for FAANG but it will be long term goal

I know several people who have well paying jobs at amazing companies (Does not have to be FAANG). But you really should upskill yourself. Look into anything other than front end. Not from a CS background but I have several friends who are. Most of them wanted to move away from front end. I would recommend you talk to recruiters to see what skills are in demand and then learn them.

What’s the career trajectory for a consultant? Software engineers are in high demand now, you could be making six figures pretty quickly

consultant in Infosys can be software engineer, support or project managers too, they are all called consultants

Here is few things for you to decide 1. Infosys - Manager and skip manager listens you and more policy oriented with higher transparency however No ESPP, no 401k match and no performance bonus 2. Cognizant - Manager listens however have no real power to take any decision, lack transparency, unlimited PTO, espp and 401k match When you go bench, infy manager try to help getting project however cognizant manager upload the resume in system and do nothing. You are on your own 100% at cognizant. Cogizant project end sooner than infosys however relocation is taken care always. GC process is easy in cognizant however it’s tough in Infosys. Cognizant fire few times however infosys fired employees on 2008 and never heard after that - insiders can update you In performance review- you know your peers in Infosys and with CTS it’s blackbox. If no other offers then I would go with infosys than cognizant and learn on myself. Alternatively, reject both and try better....

Thank you this is very insightful! I like Infosys too but the job in Cognizant is SDE which may open more doors, really puzzling

Unlimited PTO in Cognizant?? Manage/skips listening and taking action varies from person to person. The kind of Cognizant manager you refer in your post exist in Infy as well. And the kind of Infy managers you refer exist in Cognizant too.

If your heart lies on SDE and GC then try for CTS. Salary difference are not much due to indirect compensation at CTS. Try ask for offer match and see if it works
