$188k base/$60k signing/$210k RSUs I asked for more RSUs. I have a competing offer but recruiter says this is the max Nvidia can offer. I feel like the recruiter isn't even trying. After I got the offer, I asked for more RSUs and straight out he was like this is the max. The competing offer is better but am interested in the work at Nvidia. Waited a few days and then I told the recruiter again that I am really interested in working at Nvidia but there is a significant gap in RSUs when compared to the other offer and requested him to get the RSUs increased. I was expecting him to say something along the lines of "let me talk to the team and get back to you". But he politely said "this is already at max Nvidia can offer and there is no room". 1. Is this really the max Nvidia offers to ic5s? 2. Any suggestions on how to negotiate? Request phonecall with the hiring manager and discuss this with him? 3. Let the offer expire and hope they will come back with better numbers?
Yup if you can risk letting go the NVDIA offer, you should let the offer expire and let them come back (if they do)
If that’s the max RSUs, can’t you ask for more base and signing? If you really wanna work there you shouldn’t risk letting the offer go. Stock can also be renegotiated down the line.
Tried that already but the recruiter said this is the max.
Out of curiousity, how senior is this position? Not acquainted with NVidia's levels.
How much RSU would be enough for you
The other offer has 350k RSUs. Even if they can go to 300k I am ok.
I’d see if you could talk to the hiring manager directly. Just ask to talk more about the position and team to get passed the recruiter.
Ok. So it is ok to talk to hiring manager about this?
Yes why not end of the day the hiring manager approves all the budget along with the Vp of the org.
FWIW, I just got an offer and pretty much exactly this happened to me. They let me negotiate one round but that was it...offer was final after one adjustment. I even told them I had offers with higher t-comp but it didn't matter. They are being cheap because of the stock price appreciation. Pay is definitely not where I want it to be but in the end, I accepted because I currently have zero deep learning experience and feel like getting it on my resume may be worth something. But as a strategy for hiring good long term players, this seems like a bad strategy. At least you are making me feel slightly better about my offer though lol.
Is this bay area?
Reject the Nvidia offer. They might come back in the future with more money once you are in the system as having passed the interview and rejected due to financials
I think they're playing hardball because of the recent stock appreciation, lot of folks must be queuing up to join NVIDIA. If the other offer is better, why not let the offer expire? If they feel that you are worth more, they will renegotiate.
thank you for the reply. If I do that, and they don't renegotiate, is it ok to go back and say "I will accept the offer that expired". What are the chances of loosing the opportunity? I really like what the team is working on at Nvidia.
This will work only if you are willing to let go of the position. I once had an offer from a reputed company whose offer deadline was for 2 weeks, but I wanted more than 2 weeks as I was expecting another offer, they didn't agree at first and I let the offer expire. They eventually came back and said I can join them anytime in any team within the next year. It depends a lot on how you well did you did in the interview.
