Two questions up front:
- is 270k avg/4yrs for L4 (HCOL but not Bay Area) low,mid,high?
- how likely would Meta/Amazon etc be able to do better at E4/SDE2 range? I could maybe land an E5/SDE3, but definitely less likely
Context:
I got an L4 offer from Google. Because I had other deadlines, I didn't bother to see what their initial offer was but just gave them my best counter immediately (400k Coinbase L5)
They came back with 275k avg over 4 years. Looking on levels.fyi this looks like the median offer anyway? My recruiter was disappointed too. He said the reason they didn't match supposedly was because of the level difference
I'm going to turn the offer down, but I'm thinking about circling back within the year. I'm curious first off how much lower they'll offer me if I come back without any competing offers. Second, I'm wondering which companies I could interview with to get a better competing offer?
Current TC: 210
YOE: 5

1. BATNA: tell them how excited you are at Google that you're even considering a downlevel. Tell me the benefits of Coinbase and why Web3/Crypto is exciting, but you still prefer Google and this is the only thing stopping you.
2. Think of your own magic number. Do not share it with the recruiter. For what number, would you immediately sign on the spot?
just trying to plump up the L4 offer from G as much as possible
I am not sure of should be in MCOL or LCOL in US, but you could discount 10 to 15% for COL differences
